That PREDATOR one reminds me of the [dreadful] comic "Aliens Vs Predator: Deadliest of the Species #2 ". I'm not saying he's swiping or anything, just sharing a thought.

DREAMSCAPE: SAVE THE JOES ! !

*GIJoe #1-155. Click image to enlarge!*

Speaking of GIJOE.... Last night I had a dream where I was at my parents' house eating XMas Eve dinner. Suddenly I look out the window and the hillside is on fire ala our usual LA Fires every summer. Upon closer inspection, the fire is a lot closer than initally thought, with flames quickly burning up the lawn moving towards the house! I scream for all my family members to get the hell out, which they proceed to do (thank goodness!). But I stay inside and run into my old bedroom. As the walls ignite in flames around me, I frantically search for the comic box that holds my old 80s GIJOE comics from Marvel - if my collection is to be destroyed, I must atleast save THOSE!!! I woke up before finding them, but I like to think that I found them and we safely made our escape. YO JOE!
(I love this cover)

TYTUS: PIT FIGHTER HE-MAN WARLORD! !

Apparently there's a He-Man Giant called "TYTUS" who I know nothing about. But thankfully the all-knowing Internet was there to help! So Tytus was a giant figure (3-figures tall!) back in the glory days of 1980s He-Man that never saw the light of day... well, somehow ITALY had him. Therefore he's a super rare and commonly unknown He-Man character.

"[Tytus] is a part of what was to be a sub-line for the series known as 'The Powers of Grayskull'. This line was to tell of He-Mans ancestor HE-RO (another unreleased character) & his battles against the Snake Men & adventures in Pre-Eternia....Tytus's box calls him a "Heroic Giant Warlord" & on the back states Tytus the giant fights for peace... There was also an evil giant that was released only in Italy as well named MEGATOR. " (via wikipedia)
Sweet. Well Mattel is bringing him back as part of their current (and awesome) "MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE CLASSICS" line - basically making He-Man toys of how you REMEMBER them looking like when you were as a kid (non-stocky).
He looks like PIT FIGHER HE-MAN!
(ala Arnold's Conan The Barbarian)

"He did not care any more... life and death... the same. Only that the crowd would be there to greet him with howls of lust and fury. He began to realize his sense of worth... he mattered. In time, his victories could not easily be counted... he was taken to the east, a great prize, where the war masters would teach him the deepest secrets. Language and writing were also made available, the poetry of Khitai, the philosophy of Sung; and he also came to know the pleasures of women, when he was bred to the finest stock. But, always, there remained the discipline of steel."

RECENT COMICS I DUG...

*BLACKEST NIGHT (Green Lantern #50, GL Corps #44 & Blackest Night #6)
All three titles are kicking ass! This month, each issue was chock full of pure awesome. My only complaint is with Green Lantern #50 - God I wish SINESTRO had merged with Parallax... we've seen Hal, and recently Kyle, deal with being possessed by the Fear Villain. I would have LOVED to see Sinestro as Parallax... a God of Fear unleashed to defeat the Black Lantern Spectre... then the Ring Corps dealing with him afterwards. Missed opportunity, I feel. But nonetheless, the Green Lantern books (and Blackest Night mini-series) is my favorite book month-in/month-out.
*Update: GL #51 and GLCorps #45 came out this week - both great reads!

*DAREDEVIL #504
This book has been fantastic since its Marvel Knights relaunch back in 1998. New writer Andy Diggle is doing a great job so far, a few issues into his run (#501-504). This current issue was awesome with Matt Murdock ruling The Hand and using it in full force against the corrupt police force in Hell's Kitchen and Osborn's H.A.M.M.E.R. troops. Murdock maneuvers right on the razor's edge of going dark and I'm loving not knowing if he has in fact crossed it.

*FANTASTIC FOUR #575
I've really been digging Hickman's current run of FF (#570-575). It's like Alan Moore-light with some Kirby legacy visuals. There's been a few bumps here and there (2 non-Eaglesham art issues), and Hickman comes across as an unapologetic ignorant dick in the letter pages... but overall, I like this book. Pick up the issues with the Eaglesham art, skip the others.

*X-MEN: LEGACY #231-232
I dropped this title several months back after despising the title to my core (Daken... Ms. Sinister...). But I saw a preview of this issue and it looked cool so I picked it up. Its the return of Proteus (what the fuck??!!!). But they've made it "work" to a degree as its part of the "Necrosha" crossover (rise of the dead). Hopefully by the end of the story, Proteus will be dead again. The art is cool and its filled with several "neat-o moments". I guess I just don't really care, so its all good... next issue is the 3rd and final part of this storyline... if a new artist comes onboard, I'll drop the title again.

*BATMAN #692-696
I dropped Batman awhile back during Grant Morrisson's run, specifically the "Batman R.I.P." part. Its funny, Grant Morrisson wrote a fantastic Batman during his 90s JLA runt, but so far I hate his 2000s Bats. It always reads like he doesn't get nor likes the character. The new "Batman and Robin" started off interestingly enough, but I dropped it because I hated seeing Dick Grayson be a ball-less character dealing with an ill-conceived Robin character. Anyway, I picked up TONY DANIELS's current run of "BATMAN" and found myself digging the book again. Its fun, entertaining and each issue is packed with stuff (ie you won't read it in just 2 minutes). Daniel has me picking up the title once more each month. Honestly I haven't enjoyed this title since "Hush" (which was meh) and the Kelley Jones run in the 90s.

*VENGEANCE OF MOON KNIGHT #1-4
I always pick up Moon Knight when he tries for a new series (which always gets cancelled). The last one had promise but bored me to tears. This new one returns Moon Knight to the role of HERO. His newly tweaked costume is full-on "Bale's Dark Knight" but that's ok - he's a Batman "ripoff" anyway, and the new "urban commando armor" looks sweet (like Bales, but white!). So far I'm really enjoying this book.

*SIEGE #1 & 2
The supposed end of the "7 Year Bendis Era" (before the next Bendis Era begins). While I'm not expecting anything except high action with bland climax, I am enjoying this 4-issue series so far. Its fun, exciting, action-packed and issue 2 gave me a pleasant surprise moment. I'm bummed its only 4 issues long since I would prefer the end of a 7 year "epic" story to conclude in an epic manner. But alas... anyway, so far I'm having fun reading this mini-series.

DANCING PREDATORS

READER MAIL: THE UNIVERSE LOVES EMPIRE

Here's some fresh JimSmash Reader Mail from "Grayson":
"Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back is my favorite movie of all time! It stands alone by itself. The music, cinamatography, the story, acting...chemistry between the characters, the drama, romance, action...it's all there! I own several copies, but catching it on TV is like thumbing thru an old comic bin, and finding a sweet issue..."oh man...awesome..!" So I had it recorded on my DVR last November when I was lucky to catch it just before it started. Well, later when I needed to clear up space on my DVR, I went to delete it and discovered the Universe would not allow me! I've attached screenshots of my tv showcasing my failed attempts to delete Empire. Out of some strange twist of fate, and the the Power of Ka, I will never be a button push away from the greatest film of all time! Thought you might get a kick out that. Keep on Smashin!"
Ha! AWESOME!!!
Thanks for sharing!

X-FORCE STATUE

Check out this linking X-FORCE Statue by Sideshow. If ARCHANGEL was in there, I might consider getting it. Maybe they'll do a 2nd one with Archangel, Vanisher, Domino and Elixir (shrug). But Archangel should be in the "A-Group" I think. You'll notice there's 2 versions of Wolfsbane (wolf/non-wolf form)... and not pictured is a Wolverine with mask. Damn, Warpath is freaking HUGE.

BOBA FETT OMNIBUS

Dark Horse is collecting all their BOBA FETT comic stories into a neato-torpedo OMNIBUS edition, which includes:

Boba Fett: Enemy of the Empire
Underworld: The Yavin Vassilika
Star Wars Empire 7: Sacrifice
Star Wars Empire 28: Wreckage
Boba Fett: Overkill
Boba Fett 1/2: Salvage
Boba Fett: Bounty on Bar-Kooda
Boba Fett: When The Fat Lady Swings
Boba Fett: Murder Most Foul
Boba Fett: Agent of Doom
Boba Fett: Twin Engines of Destruction.

The solicit reads:
In these stories, Boba Fett gets caught between the Rebellion and the Empire; seeks a mysterious relic from a wrecked Star Destroyer; settles a diplomatic dispute -- with extreme prejudice; takes part in a bounty-hunter free-for-all; fights Darth Vader; and even goes up against a Boba Fett impostor! There's no job too deadly for the man in Mandalorian armor!
The book is $25 and set for an April 1, 2010 release. I think I may just pick this one up. I've read about half of those stories already and recall digging them, if anything just for the art (the Cam Kennedy ones are delicious!). This will go nicely along with my other Dark Horse Omnibus books; ALIENS Omnibus 2-6 (I need volume 1), Aliens Vs Predator Omnibus 1, The Mask Omnibus 1, Ghost Omnibus 1, and X Omnibus 1-2.

I can't wait for Dark Horse to put out the "Dark Empire" Omnibus... and I'd be interested in a "Legacy" (can anyone thumbs-up/down this series?). I'd also love an omnibus edition that collected all the Rubio/Marangon stories; "Tag & Bink Are Dead" series and other [short] stories by them, usually found in Star Wars Tales - those dudes are hilarious!

Anyway, if you're interested in buying this 400-page Boba whopper, I suggest contacting either Golden Apple Comics or Neptune Comics. Tell em JimSmash sent you!

AQUAMAN RETURNS ! ! !

Looks like AQUAMAN is finally returning in DC's "BRIGHTEST DAY" event. Check out this sweet cover by DAVID FINCH! His style looks a lot more sleaker than his Marvel work, which was gritty. I'm hoping this will mean Aquaman will get a solo book again and written by GEOFF JOHNS. Patrick Gleason is leaving Green Lantern Corps, so I say put him on Aquaman - I loved his short run on Aquaman a few years back. If not Gleason, then put Finch on it! Sigh... I'm dreaming... DC will probably put Aquaman into a backup feature... or if they do give him a monthly, it will be with a crappy creative team and the book will be canceled within a few years like it always does (PAD's run the exception, which I didn't like). Anyway, I'll take Aquaman where I can get him and I'm stoked for this! YAY!
