NEW ADDITION: "ON JIM'S BRAIN"

You may (or may not) have noticed a slight new addition to JIMSMASH these past few days.... below the classic Hulk Eye Icon is now "ON JIM'S BRAIN". While JimSmash is already a window into my mind, most times I'm also privately self-contemgeeking about something that isn't necessarily "post-worthy". So this is yet another way to share my inner dork! The image will change (daily/hourly/weekly....) as the forefront-topic on my brain changes.... and/or when I remember to update it (I'm quite lazy).

END THE R-WORD

Today, March 31st, is a "national day of awareness" by the Special Olympics a call to Americans to recognize and rethink their use of the word "retard"; the "R-WORD."

The organiztion is releasing an aggressive print and online campaign, targeting people ages 18 to 30. The campaign uses slurs against Asians, homosexuals, Jews and African-Americans to make the point that language can be harmful to all groups, including people with intellectual disabilities.

"Most people don't think of this word as hate speech, but that's exactly what it feels like to millions of people with intellectual disabilities, their families and friends," a statement about the campaign reads. "This word is just as cruel and offensive as any other slur."

Our choice of language frames how we think about others.

Please support the elimination of the derogatory use of the r-word from everyday speech and promote the acceptance and inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities.

SIDESHOW TIMBER & STORM SHADOW

Remember the kickass SideShow SNAKE-EYES and COBRA TROOPER? Well now you can buy a TIMBER & DIORAMA to go with!

Pretty sweet. Now I really want them! But man, 100-bucks a pop?

Oh, I didn't post about it before, but they've also made a STORM SHADOW:
(I thought Storm Shadow was Japanese, not Steven Seagal?)

ALIENS RETURN AT DARK HORSE

May 27th, Dark Horse Comics is bringing back ALIENS with the simply titled "ALIENS #1", by John Arcudi(w), Zach Howard(p) and Mark Irwin(i)!

The last Aliens comic series was "Xenogenesis" in 1999. It sucked really hard and I was glad DH stopped making more dreadful Aliens comics. Let's hope this new attempt is an improvement.
*(recommended Aliens comics at bottom of post)

Here's some pencil previews... Howard's pencils look fantastic! I'm a big fan of pencil work, so I wouldn't mind having this being released in just his black-n-white pencils. It will be interesting to see what it looks like with Irwin's inking, plus coloring added......er, I suppose very much like that cover above.

My only "gripe" so far - they've brought back those silly uber-Sentries from "Earth War", with the giant spikes on the side of their faces. But, Howard draws them pretty wicked sweet.

BATTLE BEASTS

"Battle Beasts!
WOOD! FIRE! -Fire burrrrns Wood!
Battle Beasts!
FIRE! WATER! -Water puts out Fire!
Battle Beasts!
WATER! WOOD! -Wood beats Water!
BATTLE BEASTS!"

Anyone remember BATTLE BEASTS? They came out in 1986. I was too old to play with them, but when has that ever stopped me? Battle Beasts were little 1" tall figures with very little articulation; their arms moved. They came in two-packs and were humanoid Animals of battle. Each character fought for either FIRE, WOOD or WATER. They had a small heat-sensitive sticker on their chest, which when rubbed, would reveal which side they were on. 99.9% of the characters were pretty lame. But I tend to find that in every toyline there's usually atleast ONE semi-cool looking character. Battle Beasts had ICKY IGUANA! And yes, I had him and still do to this day. I don't remember who he came with in his 2-pack. But I do know whoever he was, he went in the trash immediately. WATER BEATS FIRE!

SPEEDER BIKE BIG WHEELS RULE

Australian kids are getting the special treatment because only in Australia will you be able to buy this new speeder bike big wheel from ToyMonster. It sports an inflatable front rubber tire, a 3-position seat, high tensile steel frame, and leaning rear-turn steering. Awesome.

Hey, remember Huffy's speeder bike big wheel, circa 1984?!

NEWS OF THE DAY: THAI SPIDER-MAN

Thai 'Spider-Man' to the rescue

An unusual disguise has helped a Bangkok fireman rescue an eight-year-old boy who had climbed on to a third-floor window ledge, Thai police say.

The firefighter dressed up as the comic book superhero Spider-Man in order to coax the boy, who is autistic, from his dangerous perch.

Police said teachers had alerted the fire station after the boy began crying and climbed out of a classroom window.

It was reportedly his first day at the special needs school.

Efforts by the teachers to convince the pupil back inside had failed.

But a remark by his mother about his passion for comic superheroes prompted fireman Somchai Yoosabai to rush back to the station, where he kept a Spider-Man costume in his locker.

The sight of Mr Yoosabai dressed as Spider-Man and holding a glass of juice for him, brought a big smile to the boy's face, and he promptly threw himself into the arms of his "superhero", police said.

Mr Yoosabai normally uses the costume to liven up fire drills in schools.

GALACTICA FINALE - TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL

BAH.

ya know what pissed me off the most?
The insulting ignorance of the writers.

>> SPOILERS....

The Colony finds Earth - our Earth - 150,000 years ago. They land in Africa where they discover humans are already living on the planet. They watch the native inhabitants from afar and learn that while they do not yet have a spoken language, they do have rudimentary weapons (spears) and bury their dead. So they decide they will give "the primitives" their language and teach them their superior ways. They then spread across the globe and breed with all the "inferior natives" and build "a better world". And so explains the "Origins of Man".
