RIP: MAJEL BARRET-RODDENBERRY

Awww... MAJEL BARRET-RODDENBERRY passed away this morning at the age of 76. Majel is the widow of STAR TREK creator Gene Roddenberry and has been a part of Trek, in all its many incarnations, since it first premiered in 1966. In addition to playing Number One and Nurse Christine Chapel (yay!) in the original series, she played Deanna Troi’s mother on “Star Trek: The Next Generation.”

Its also a little-known fact (unless you're a Trekkie) that she was also the VOICE of the Enterprise as well as other various starships throughout the Trek series. Last I heard, she had been hired to reprise her role as the ship's voice in JJAbram's reboot. News articles have reported that she did indeed complete her voiceover work before her passing.

She was so much a part of Star Trek - as much as any of the original cast, if not more. This is an end of an era and a sad day for Star Trek fans around the world.

Rest in peace, Majel.

That's very sad to hear. I am currently inflicting all of Star Trek on my wife (have just watched Squire of Gothos, TNG on hold as the next one features Troi's fruity mother and even I can't sit through it), and Majel has been one of our favourite characters. Might have to dig out her B5 episode too.
