2 NEW PUNISHER WAR ZONE POSTERS

GUITAR HERO FIGURES (WHY?)

McFarlane Toys is making figures based on GUITAR HERO. Why, I'm not sure. I guess someone out there wants them?

In related news, check out this cover to GUITAR WORLD. Photoshop? Naaah....

FEMALE X-WING PILOTS ! ! !

sigh, of course one of them has to be a Twi'lek.

PREDATOR ON HORSE ! ! !

Remember those "Fan Art Fridays" posts with the Predators and Horses?
------
Well..... Sideshow Collectibles has made an actual statue of a Predator on a Horse (found on AliensCollection.com). Can't wait to see this in AVP3. *please note sarcasm and bitterness*

MICHAEL TURNER PASSED AWAY

The Comic Community mourns the loss of comic penciller MICHAEL TURNER, who passed away this past friday after battling chondrosarcoma (cancer of the hip). Turner splashed onto the scene in the mid-90s co-creating WITCHBLADE and FATHOM for Top Cow. An instant comic superstar, Turner later started his own comic company, ASPEN MLT, where his next project SOULFIRE debuted, as well as the new home for Fathom. Recently both Marvel and DC books have sported covers by Turner; Identity Crisis, Civil War and more. Michael Turner was 37.

DAVID MACK LOVES ADAM HUGHES

Back in february I posted about DAVID MACK ripping off artwork by ALEX MALEEV and ADAM HUGHES for NEW AVENGERS #39 (post 1/ post 2). Well here are some more examples of that New Avengers issue where Mack swiped from Adam Hughes, specifically the GEN13: ORDINARY HEROES 2-issue mini-series that came out in 1996 (source).

For those non-comic readers, the pages with Echo (in BLACK) are from Mack's New Avengers... the characters in GREEN are from Hughe's GEN13 issue.

Adam Hughe's girlfriend & manager, Allison Sohn, chimed in a bit over at a Newsarma forum, HERE.

Some "light box techniques" as they call it:

JUST WHEN MARTIAN MANHUNTER WAS BECOMING COOL

...DC kills him off... for no reason other than shock. Bah.

JIMSMASH CASTING COUCH: XAVIER & MAGNETO

Don't get me wrong, I think Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen did ok jobs, but they felt "off" to me; McKellen being the most off-the-mark from his comic-counterpart, especially in X2 ("We luuuv what you've done with your hair, *snicker*"). Magento: Master of Magnetism, Leader of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, The X-Men's most dangerous enemy.... he is not.

Before the movies were even a thought, I had always thought the roles should go to BEN KINGSLEY and TERENCE STAMP. I think Kingsley has that odd, slightly uncomfortable, creepy cerebral manner about him that would suit Professor X. And Stamp has that amazing, commanding voice! So there you have it... my choices for the X-MEN movie.

Previous JimSmash Casting Couch:
*Highlander Remake
* Black Panther
* Nick Fury
* Deadpool
* Cobra Commander
Quasi-Casting Couch:
* Obi-Wan Kenobi - Age 45
* General Zod

RODRIGUEZ RUINS RED SONJA

What is with Robert Rodriguez pushing his wife onto everyone? He's recently announced he's going to cast her as RED SONJA. I don't think she could carry my groceries to my car let alone be the uber-badass barbarian. McGowen is 5'3"tall... hardly a warrior to be reckoned with. Plus there's the whole "talent" thing. In short, she's extremely wrong for the part on just about every level. To put this in perspective, casting Rose McGowen as Red Sonja is like casting Elijah Wood as CONAN.

CUSTOM SULACO HANGAR

A sweet custom 1:72 scale diorama of the "Solaco's" dropship hangar! Click HERE to see more pics!

BLACK COSTUME SPIDEY MUGG

Love that costume!

RIP KERMIT LOVE

KERMIT LOVE died saturday at the age of 91. Love was the costume designer who helped Jim Henson create BIG BIRD. He also designed the SNUGGLES bear and helped design other classic puppets like MR. SNUFFLEUPAGUS, OSCAR THE GROUCH and COOKIE MONSTER! You might recognize him, too, as Sesame Street's hot dog vender WILLY! Wow, what wonderful gifts Love gave us! Thank you, Kermit!

"The most important thing about puppets is that they must project their imagination, and then the audience must open their eyes and imagine."

MORE GREG LAND TRACING

The top pic is Greg Land's cover to Wolverine Origins #26. Don't pick it up because its truly one of the worst comics ever and destroys the character of Wolverine on a monthly basis. Anyway, the cover was released as a preview a few months back... oh, about a week after the Hugh Jackman Wolverine movie pic was released.

I sat on this because I felt like I was harpin' on Land too much. But lately... well, with Uncanny X-Men #500.... my anger has been reignited.

With some minor photoshopping (ie 90 sec of cut/paste/transform), you can see the "tracing"...

TYRANNOSAURUS REX DISSAPOINTS ME

The link to this pic was labeled "Zombie Tyrannosaurus Rex", which made me think it was going to be a movie about a ZOMBIE DINOSAUR. Unfortunately, it just looks like a crappy B-movie of a dinosaur attacking Grindhouse cliches. My immense disappointment overrides any possible enthusiasm for this movie now. Someone please make a ZOMBIE DINOSAUR movie for me? Thanks.

GIJOE POSTERS

The name of the film is now "GIJOE: RISE OF COBRA" (not to be confused with the mini-series "Arise, Serpentor, Arise!"). Snake-Eyes' clan symbol has already become over-exposed and uncool. Still no Cobra emblem for the bad guys. But Baroness is ready for racquetball.

*There's a 3rd poster of Duke, but its lame and undeserving of JimSmash's attention.

DARK CRYSTAL CHAMBERLAIN FIGURE

NICE!!!! Neca is doing some fantastic work lately! This badboy comes out 3rd quarter 2008 and is available for preorder online ($15 or so). Hopefully its the first of a very large series, mmmmhmmmm!!!

MORE GREG LAND TRACING

Here's some more examples from around the web of GREG LAND tracing not only photographs (of other people's work I might add), but of his own work:
[Even toys are not safe]
---
I've heard many people say, in addition to tracing Maxim, Muscle Fitness and Playboy, that Land also traces porn. I don't see it. Just kidding.
---
For the cover to UNCANNY X-MEN #500, Land pulled out the spots and reused alot of his own work, as well as swiping from John Cassaday, too!
