EARTHA KITT PASSED AWAY

Awww... yesterday EARTHA KITT passed away at the age of 81.

For me, Kitt will always be CATWOMAN from the 1960s Batman TV show, as well as YZMA from 'Emperor's New Groove' - 2 brilliant performances!

Thank you for all the years of purrrr-fect entertainment!

Rest in Peace, Ms. Kitt.

JIMSMASH CHRISTMAS CARD 2008

Last year (just after Xmas) I received this image from JimSmash reader "Mr. Grayson"! He made a JIMSMASH t-shirt and wore it to his local comic shop where Fox was promoting AVP-R with Santa Alien and Santa Predator. He even brought a plush facehugger & gift box for the perfect picture! Awesome!! So, here we are a year later and it is the official JIMSMASH CHRISTMAS CARD for 2008! Thanks, Mr. Grayson!!

On that note....
JIMSMASH WILL BE INACTIVE
FOR 2 WEEKS!

Posting will resume MONDAY, JANUARY 5th, 2009.

So until then, revisit the Archives for past gems!

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays

SUPER FACEHUGGER MAQUETTE

Sideshow Collectibles is producing a life-size maquette of the Queen Facehugger used in ALIEN 3,designed by Amalgamated Dynamics. (*thanks, ChrisA!)

The "SUPER FACEHUGGER" (as it was dubbed) was to be introduced into the Alien Movie Mythos as the facehugger than impregnates a QUEEN fetus.

While the Super Facehugger was built and even filmed, it was eventually abandoned from the final cut. However, if you watch the extended cut (I highly recommend, btw), you get a quick glance of it... but within the context of the story, it only appears to be a regular facehugger.

Personally, I was glad it was cut from the film because I wasn't too thrilled with the "Super Facehugger" design. I felt that the design was trying hard to be this badass monster. It felt more like "The Thing" than "Alien". However, I didn't mind the Dark Horse Comics version that preceded the Alien 3 Super Facehugger....
---
Just after ALIENS [the movie] debuted -and years before Alien 3 was on the horizon- DarkHorse Comics introduced the concept of a queen carrying facehugger in DARK HORSE PRESENTS #24. Their version of the "QueenHugger" looked just like a regular facehugger except with the addition of long spikes on its back. While unnecessary to have a separate creature, in my opinion, this was subtle and still worked within the previously established mythos of the creature.

You can also see those queenhuggers in the first Alien Vs Predator comic series, issue #0.---
In addition, Kenner also made a "Queen Facehugger" toy in 1992/3:As you can see, it looks like it was based on the unused Alien 3 "Super Facehugger" design.

With all the above said, the Sideshow maquette looks pretty sweet. It would make a nice addition to my ALIEN Collection simply for the historical significance. I'll post more pictures later when they become available by Sideshow.

RIP: MAJEL BARRET-RODDENBERRY

Awww... MAJEL BARRET-RODDENBERRY passed away this morning at the age of 76. Majel is the widow of STAR TREK creator Gene Roddenberry and has been a part of Trek, in all its many incarnations, since it first premiered in 1966. In addition to playing Number One and Nurse Christine Chapel (yay!) in the original series, she played Deanna Troi’s mother on “Star Trek: The Next Generation.”

Its also a little-known fact (unless you're a Trekkie) that she was also the VOICE of the Enterprise as well as other various starships throughout the Trek series. Last I heard, she had been hired to reprise her role as the ship's voice in JJAbram's reboot. News articles have reported that she did indeed complete her voiceover work before her passing.

She was so much a part of Star Trek - as much as any of the original cast, if not more. This is an end of an era and a sad day for Star Trek fans around the world.

Rest in peace, Majel.

CONOBAR, SON OF CONAN

The above-left pic is ROLAND KICKINGER who will be playing the T-800 ("Arnold's Terminator") in TERMINATOR IV.

Kickinger, a perfect choice, was born in Austria in 1968 - the same year Arnold left Austria for the U.S. at the age of 21. This is enough evidence for me to conclude that Kickinger must be Arnold Schwarzenegger's bastard son, which is totally awesome.

THE RETURN OF AZRAEL

Back in 2006 I did a post about wanting AZRAEL to return. Well check it out - he's returning in 2009!

Ya know, he first made his appearance when Batman was defeated and left Gotham void of its hero. Now with "BATMAN R.I.P." over, its quite fitting Azrael makes his return. (please note the bitter sarcasm in my angry fanboy voice)

Seriously, Batman R.I.P. had me dropping my Batman titles... after 20 years of buying! Now that I think of it, ever since Dan DiDio became Senior VP/Executive Editor, my interest in DCU books has greatly diminshed. Where once I was buying over a dozen DCU books, I am now just reading Green Lantern and Action Comics by Geoff Johns - basically Johns is keeping my toe in the DCU. So the odds of this new Azrael being good are slim, under the office of DiDio. The dude must go . Grrrrr.

Anyway, yeah, Azrael's back.

THE BIRDS BARBIE

Ha!

BENDIS, THE SUB-MARINER

In Marvel's DARK REIGN #1, NAMOR is drawn not like a noble king, but like some shlub who needs a bath and shave. Not only does he look nothing like Namor who is noble, strong, arrogant, royal & powerful... but this Namor also has an uncanny resemblance to Dark Reign writer BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS. Hmmmm. I'm usually quite fond of artist Alex Maleev's work... but man... dude, come on....

Bendis-Namor could not exclaim "Imperius Rex!"

Bendis-Namor grunts, "My balls itch!"

"WOLVERINE: ORIGINS" TRAILER

X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE HD

crap, that actually looks half-decent... in a "Singer's X-Men World" kind of way. I still mourn the loss of what could have been. Anyway, watch the trailer. Thoughts?

NARIN'S "WOLF" & "PREDALIEN" BUSTS

NARIN has become my new favorite sculptor! Check out his new WOLF Predator and PREDALIEN busts! While I hated the movie (APV-R) and loathe the Predalien, I will say he does a mean sculpt. And uber-praise to JOE DUNAWAY for the beautiful paintjobs! Seriously, the paintjob is so nice, if they came pre-assembled and pre-painted like that.... holy shit, I might've bought them! Too bad they don't, and even if they did they would have cost a fortune, and the kits are sold out already anyway.
